High strength steel tapered roller bearings support the weight of the vehicle and allow the axle to move freely. Mounted in pairs on opposite ends of the shaft with the bearing cup (6689638). If you hear grinding from the wheel bearing, replace the bearing as soon as possible to prevent the axle from being warped or damaged. Bearing failure could cause the axle shaft to break.
